Day 291 #Project365

Every time after having my hair cut and coloured at a hair salon, I always have this narcissistic urge to take a self-portrait. The reason is quite simple, really, because it is practically the only time my hair looks so great. I’ll have this great hair day for two days, then the magic will be over as soon as I do my first hair wash at home. So it is rather ‘important’ to try to capture these rare great-hair-moments. Did I mention narcissistic earlier on? 😉

I’m really bad when it comes to self-portrait. I can do an okay one with an iPhone, but today I wanted to do it with the ‘proper’ camera. A bit of challenge wouldn’t hurt anyone, right.

I did not use a tripod, I just put the camera on top of a small chest on the table, while I prepared to sit on the chair next to it. I used the chair to set my focus, set the lens on manual focus, used my sandal to cue how far I could shift the chair back while I ran and sat down and tried to pose ‘naturally’ until the timer snapped 10 seconds.

Here’s the result.

Not exactly what I envisioned in my head, but hey, at least my hair looks fresh with no split-ends in sight!

Then I asked Ms 4 to sit on the chair for me so that I could focus on her, instead of the unreliable chair, so when the timer started she could quickly move while I ran to take her place on the chair for my self-portrait. Well, in theory that could work, but in reality, Ms 4 just didn’t want to budge from her spot. She’s less reliable than the chair, it turns out. She wanted IN! The truth was she got quite excited watching my effort (running back and forth) so she wanted to be included in the fun and in the picture. And you know what, it was indeed quite fun despite her non-stop yell “again! again! again!”.

Here is one of my favourite of us from today.
