52 Portrait Project – 7/52

February 16, 2014 by [ayu]

The Color Run finally came to Canberra. They said it’s the happiest 5K in the planet. Well, looking at this happy face it is hard to deny that claim. What’s more convincing was the fact that this friend of mine is one of the cleanest person I know, so to see her this happy being this ‘dirty’ it sure hell was something! I call this a Unicorn-just-threw-up-rainbow-on-you look.

52 Portrait Project – 6/52

February 9, 2014 by [ayu]

These lovely girls were prettily dressed in Indonesian traditional costumes yesterday to join the children’s parade at the annual Canberra Multicultural festival. It was such a hot day (around 39 degrees), and the kids had to wait a bit until the adults got organised and started the parade. The portraits show the girls’ happy personality. The heat and the long wait didn’t seem to bother them, and believe me, there were many grumpy/cranky children (and adults) around who were just […]

52 Portrait Project – 4/52

January 26, 2014 by [ayu]

Faces of Petra is the theme of this week’s portrait project. Even with the stunning view surrounding us when we were in Petra, the locals had their way to make their presence truly felt. I’m talking about the trading locals who filled the area in front of the Treasury, who were there in throngs, with their various items to sell and animals for hire. We’ve got a wide selection of items to buy from them; silver bracelets, necklaces, (claimed to […]

hair play

September 12, 2013 by [ayu]

The idea was to take a clean head shot of my daughter in her short do. She has been rocking this for a while now, but a couple of months ago when we decided to chop it off from her below shoulder length, we were amazed by how drastically different she looked. I love this hair on her, because it’s so easy to maintain, and light. No more 15 minutes before school hair battle trying to untangle everything and comb/braid/brush/pin/pull […]

monkey business

July 28, 2013 by [ayu]

In this rare occasion, Mr 9 did not actually run (or made stupid silly faces/blocked his face with various objects/hid his face) when I asked him to stop, stand still and look at my camera. I did not ask him to pose or anything, because I’ve learned my lesson and I know enough by now how to ‘work’ my own kids. I love his expression. His eyes were intense, expressive and so boyish. Without any form of bribe this usually […]

not. happy. mum.

March 3, 2013 by [ayu]

It was a hot humid day that weekend. Ms K was all dressed up in Indonesian costume ready to join the children’s parade in Civic for the 2013 Canberra Multicultural Festival. The waiting was too long, the day was too hot, the walk from the parking to the venue was too far, well, basically, everything was too wrong for her. And to top it all off, she was extra upset that I did not bring her swimmers so she […]

Day 331 #Project365

November 26, 2012 by [ayu]

Nikon D90 | AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G | ISO800 | f/1.8 | 1/100 | This is the scene at the end of Ms 4’s playdate today. Indeed it was a super fun one, as it is always the case when G and A came to play. I love how they were just goofing around on top of each other on a beanie bag. Big grins, happy faces, and one totally flattened beanie bag 🙂

Day 324 #Project365

November 19, 2012 by [ayu]

Nikon D90 | AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G | ISO320 | f/3.5 | 1/320 | It pays to take my camera everywhere. Like today. It was our typical Monday, we didn’t do anything special that could warrant a ‘special’ shot. Ms 4 and I arrived a bit early at my son’s school, so we had to wait a bit until he came out. She moved to the passenger seat and reclined the seat so she could lie down. A bit tired she […]

Day 299 #Project365

October 25, 2012 by [ayu]

I came from the land of black hair and dark brown eyes, that’s why taking photographs of people with other colour of hair and eyes (non black hair, and non brown eyes) is fascinating to me. This boy is the perfect example. R is  3 years old with a thick red hair, dark green eyes and cute freckles peppering his face. His mom and I often have coffee together, but only today I had my camera ready, and only today […]
