night vision – Canberra

June 19, 2013 by [ayu]

These photos were taken about a month ago. It was a cold autumn night in Canberra, the temperature dropped to 5 degrees. Add a little of wind it actually felt even colder. I was ready in my layers of clothing (and gloves, and a beanie) I didn’t feel that uncomfortable. Taking night photography is always interesting. Most of the time is all about keeping still, that’s why we use the help of tripod. Then it’s a matter of waiting. How […]

autumn colours in canberra

April 27, 2013 by [ayu]

It’s early autumn in Canberra and we are slowly gearing up towards winter. The temperature dropped by two degrees or ten (at nights), and light jackets have started to see the light of days again. I was out walking and enjoying the sun while really savouring the changing colours around me. I love the colours of Canberra around this time of year. This early in autumn, all the leaves with changing colours are pretty much still hanging on tight to […]

the 100th birthday: night celebration

March 24, 2013 by [ayu]

Now is the time to highlight the night entertainment during the Canberra Day long weekend. Again, I was a bit overwhelmed by the choices. Having a young kid who refused to walk by herself after 9 PM did help us remove some of the (fun) choices. The events were basically sprawled in the same area. But the area was quite big for tiny legs to walk all the way around so we decided to come two nights, taking different point […]

the 100th birthday: one very big day

March 23, 2013 by [ayu]

Monday, 11th March 2013, was a big celebratory day in Canberra, thus the name, One Very Big Day. Events, live performances, food, dances, you name it were all there around the lake Burley-Griffin. … Canberra is a city built on words: it was created as a place for the nation to meet and communicate, so WORDS is our theme. Canberra… in so many Words. source: canberra100.com.au On that day I was predominantly involved in Indonesian Home project, which was a collaboration […]

the 100th birthday: 2013 Canberra Festival Balloon Spectacular

March 22, 2013 by [ayu]

Canberra has turned 100 on her birthday, the 12th of March, last week. A year-long events are planned in 2013 for the  Centenary of Canberra celebration. You can check here for details. The Canberra Day long weekend was like a big party weekend here in Canberra. There were so many things happening, day and night, from Friday to Monday. I went to a few events, and I am sharing the photos of these events here, starting with the hot air balloon […]

not. happy. mum.

March 3, 2013 by [ayu]

It was a hot humid day that weekend. Ms K was all dressed up in Indonesian costume ready to join the children’s parade in Civic for the 2013 Canberra Multicultural Festival. The waiting was too long, the day was too hot, the walk from the parking to the venue was too far, well, basically, everything was too wrong for her. And to top it all off, she was extra upset that I did not bring her swimmers so she […]

Day 357 #Project365

December 22, 2012 by [ayu]

Eating experience sometimes is more interesting when you can see the cook at work. Lunch at Wasabi today totally ruined the effect of the whole life-long advice from our parents to not play with our food. The chef threw whatever he could in the air, and threw some for us to catch with our wee bowls, it was exciting. To have the whole egg landed splat on my lap was quite inevitable really, but I really had a good time. […]

Day 356 #Project365

December 21, 2012 by [ayu]

Summer holiday is officially started. Today was Mr 8’s last day of school. Also, it was his last day in this school. He is going to a new school starting next year. So yeah, it was kind of big deal. The school had this farewell ‘bang’ at the end of the day to say goodbye to all the Year 6 graduates and those others who will not come back next year. A lot of chanting, screaming, banging and clapping. […]

Day 348 #Project365

December 13, 2012 by [ayu]

The Mulley Street Yarn-a-thon was today. I’ve written about this event in a post back in August, at the beginning of it. Some of people from the local community, the students of schools involved in the project, even the ACT Chief Minister were there. The gathering was to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the big and horrible bush fire of 2003 in Canberra. The trees and the close surrounding area were, as promised and intended, ‘bombed’with yarns. It’s quite an […]

Day 338 #Project365

December 3, 2012 by [ayu]

This morning was pleasant. Weather wise. It’s not too warm and there was plenty of cool air from the wind. A perfect running day. I remember at the beginning of this project I took a lot of photos with my iPhone during my morning/afternoon run. I’d stop and snapped, and continued on running. I didn’t do that a lot these days as I used mostly my DSLR for my posts. Today I decided to do it again; to take photos […]
