These photos were taken about a month ago. It was a cold autumn night in Canberra, the temperature dropped to 5 degrees. Add a little of wind it actually felt even colder. I was ready in my layers of clothing (and gloves, and a beanie) I didn’t feel that uncomfortable. Taking night photography is always interesting. Most of the time is all about keeping still, that’s why we use the help of tripod. Then it’s a matter of waiting. How […]

Monday, 11th March 2013, was a big celebratory day in Canberra, thus the name, One Very Big Day. Events, live performances, food, dances, you name it were all there around the lake Burley-Griffin. … Canberra is a city built on words: it was created as a place for the nation to meet and communicate, so WORDS is our theme. Canberra… in so many Words. source: canberra100.com.au On that day I was predominantly involved in Indonesian Home project, which was a collaboration […]

Looks like I wasn’t the only one who thought the day was too nice to stay inside.

The wind blew freezing air in the last winter morning in Canberra. Nothing around me could stand still, everything was under the mercy of the wind, moving this way and that. The flags were flapping wildly, as well as the leaves and those new popping flower buds on some trees, even my hat decided to leave my head during my run. It was craaaazy. This bald tree, however, was one of the few things that stood still in this part […]

My first Bird in Flight snap! It was unplanned, as I was busy trying to catch good shots of 5 kids under 5 on bikes. The day was beautiful, even the birds looked like they had so much fun just hanging out under the sun. Birds+kids = birds chased by kids, that’s how I caught this one. It’s not a perfect Bird in Flight snap, but it captured the feeling of this afternoon for me. All happy, free and glorious […]

In a windless morning like today the lake was really like a giant mirror. It reflected everything in front of it (or was it on top?) in perfect symmetry. I love water reflection image (maybe) largely because I love symmetrical things. My eyes were drawn to everything symmetrical around the lake today and boy, they were everywhere. Here are the two of many images I captured this glorious morning.

Ideally, for a ‘portrait’ photo like this the model should stand about a metre or two away from the photographer to make the composition works, and create a good balance of space between the model and the lovely background. Ideally. Today’s model was somewhat undisciplined. He flunked his first training at puppy school because he was way too playful and easily distracted. The instructors were not too happy with him (true story) so we agreed the best way was to […]

My son’s love of fishing brought the whole family out this fine Sunday morning. He was participating in Canberra Carp-Out. It’s an event, part of Canberra Festival, which basically helping to take out the Carp fish out of lake Burley Griffin; killed them and made them into fertiliser later. Sounds horrid, I know. I can’t defend the fish because apparently they eat other fish’ food and they breed too fast. Something like that. In our first chosen location, we encountered […]

Today was probably the only Monday that people actually happy to wake up to. The sun finally shining. After a week of rain, you couldn’t help but missing the heat, the warmth, the dryness that only the sun can offer. The lake was dirty. A lot of debris, branches and all sort. There was even a sign (!) for people not to do anything in the lake because the increase amount of bacteria suspected in the water. Maybe that explained […]

A cyclist friend of mine once said, the best way to get to know a city is by cycling around that city, because you see can see more of everything. Today I finally understood. We cycled for an hour and a half today, and boy, it’s so true that you can see more. So only for today, instead of the usual one photo per day, I will post extra photos. Happy 50th day of the year!

This is the view that I’ve been missing. Last year I came to the lake at least twice a week to run. It’s my place if I want to run 5K or 10K. Less than 5 or in between 5 to 10km I run around my neighborhood. One round around the lake is roughly 5 kilometer, that’s the one of the reasons I do it like this. I haven’t been going the past months due to the school holiday, it […]
