night vision – Canberra

June 19, 2013 by [ayu]

These photos were taken about a month ago. It was a cold autumn night in Canberra, the temperature dropped to 5 degrees. Add a little of wind it actually felt even colder. I was ready in my layers of clothing (and gloves, and a beanie) I didn’t feel that uncomfortable. Taking night photography is always interesting. Most of the time is all about keeping still, that’s why we use the help of tripod. Then it’s a matter of waiting. How […]

the 100th birthday: night celebration

March 24, 2013 by [ayu]

Now is the time to highlight the night entertainment during the Canberra Day long weekend. Again, I was a bit overwhelmed by the choices. Having a young kid who refused to walk by herself after 9 PM did help us remove some of the (fun) choices. The events were basically sprawled in the same area. But the area was quite big for tiny legs to walk all the way around so we decided to come two nights, taking different point […]

Day 274 #Project365

October 1, 2012 by [ayu]

Tonight we had so much fun at 2012 Floriade NightFest. Yes it was cold, and yes there were (still) flowers everywhere. But there was so much lights everywhere too. It was such a different experience, we had a really lovely time. The cold reminded us a bit of Christmas night market in Cologne minus the glühwein. I love the ‘carnival’ feel to it in particular. The giant ferris wheel, the slides, the various ‘fun’ rides, and live performances, it made the […]

Day 150 #Project365

May 29, 2012 by [ayu]

A couple of months into this project 365, I developed a habit of taking my camera everywhere I go. Living with daily chaos of running a household with two young kids, to schedule a specific time daily for photo taking is the luxury we mothers usually don’t have. So, whenever I find myself waiting –waiting for my kids, food order, someone to pick me up– instead of reading I use it now for taking photos. Whether I feel like it or […]

Day 140 #Project365

May 19, 2012 by [ayu]

The Canberra International Music Festival brought us to Kingston Foreshore today. It was a nice community event; great music, nice kiosks, lovely mulled wine and great companies. I was wearing my loyal converse with thin socks that gave me no warmth whatsoever. So once I could no longer feel my toes I decided it was time to head home. We passed these baldies on our way back to the car park. I could never resist bald trees, so I managed […]

Day 136 #Project365

May 15, 2012 by [ayu]

With the day I had it was surprising that energy at all to take a single photo  let alone posted it. It might not be a wise decision to change my 50mm lens to a kit lens at the beginning of the week either, but here we are. Here’s one quick shot after a long day, a last look of the street before we turned in for the day.

Day 129 #Project365

May 8, 2012 by [ayu]

It’s still autumn here in Canberra and I have already started to notice the challenges I was about to face going into the colder months. Winter means three things: shorter days, colder days and dark. I need to get more organised with my days so that I can get more shots using natural lights during daylight,  and it is inevitable that I have to be extra creative with experiments/project using artificial lighting indoors. I can, of course, venture the world […]

Day 71 #Project365

March 11, 2012 by [ayu]

Tonight was the last night to catch all the glorious lights projected on the buildings in Canberra. Yes, it’s still part of the city’s birthday celebration. I went out with Mr 8 until 10PM. Hubby had to stay back to be with Ms 4 who’s gradually recovering from a nasty stomach bug. I really love to learn more about night photography, but I don’t have a lot of opportunity to practice. Tonight was the perfect opportunity. A lot of Canberrans […]

Day 47 #Project365

February 16, 2012 by [ayu]

Sometimes you see or pass the same things everyday you don’t even look twice or regard them totally unattractive, even boring,  to be used as your object for photo of the day project. But it got me thinking. Sometimes I saw some really nice photographs which has ordinary things as their objects. What I meant was, sometimes the objects in these spectacular photographs are the things that you and I see or even use every day. It’s just out of […]

Day 25 #Project365

January 25, 2012 by [ayu]

Time was almost running out. The day was almost over and I haven’t taken any photo for today’s post. I know before I decided to commit to this 365 project that some days are going to be harder than others. Just didn’t realize that the time is here even before January ends. So, this was what the traffic looked like as we entered Sydney tonight. It’s been raining non stop since we left Canberra, and apparently it’s going to be […]

night shots – sydney

November 29, 2011 by [ayu]

photos taken Dec 2010 Another first in my relationship with photography, I learned to take photos at night time. With a photog friend in tow barking instructions, I cranked up the ISO, turned the speed low and learned how to breath in, press the shutter, hold my breath and breath out when it’s done. It was a pleasant experience, I really enjoyed this night outting. Need to do more of this. The incredible lights! Oh my. They just illuminate.. Out […]
